Noob Flasher Questions (LX-5)

Cal

Recommended Posts

I've never had any experience with any sort of Flasher unit before. I picked up an LX-5 last week and finally got a chance to use it today.

Just looked at the video that was posted in the other topic.

95% of the fishing I plan on doing will be in 20 feet or less of water, with the better part of it being in 4-8 feet.

Questions:

Is there a reason I should leave the Super Fine Line feature off?

Fishing today in 10-13 feet of water I didn't notice a real significant amount of difference between the 8 or 20 degree mode. I understand the advantages of the wider cone angle, but in real use instances, is there a great deal of difference I should notice?

Today using a fairly small Gigga Wopper and a few small pimples, should I set the gain so it elimanates the reading off of my small sinker a few inches about my lure, or by doing so, it it set too low?

Any other relavent info anyone has for a noob?

Thanks...

Cal- You will not notice a difference in the reading if you have the NBT(narrow beam tranceducer) button on or off unless you are fishing weeds or a steep drop off. Those are the only couple of situations that I can think of to use it. Unless you are fishing near someone and dont want to see thier lure.

I have to admit, I dont use the SFL much. I dont mind seeing the bigger readings.. I feel I can see wheather a fish is in the middle of my cone angle or outside the cone better if SFL is off.. IF you have the unit in zoom mode.. the SFL is awlways on.

Turn the gain down so that your lure is just a hint of red or not red at all.. I would expect you will still see a sinker. If fish start to go for your sinker. ITS TIME TO DOWNSIZE!
