Picking the right lure

I was wondering how often a particular lure has saved the day. Has trying a particular lure changed your luck from bad to good, and how many tries before you found the magic one? I'm wondering if they really prefer a certain bait or if they simply turn on.

Thanks.

Only one time that I can remember, did a radical switch, at least in my opinion, saved the day. On a local bass lake, where plastics never failed, we didnt catch anything. I switched to a bucktail, for the first time in my life, and caught a master angler bass...first cast. I have been in my boat when other people, using the same lure as me, in the back of the boat, and kicked my "bass". All about the presentation sometimes, all about the fish turning on, like you said, and all about a thousand and ten other variables. That is why they call it fishing, and why I will never tire of it.

Indeed it does.

This is a secondhand story but:

Some friends tell me they were on this clear water lake up around Hackensack. The boat was anchored near shore. One of the guys look down to the anchor and spots a smallie hanging out. They threw everything they had at it, and it didn't so much as flinch.

Finally they dropped a worm and a hook, and the smallie took it before the bobber had settled.
