Electric Fillet Knife

I have used a regular fillet knife for about 20 years. Last summer my neighbor let me use his electric. It took a little getting used to, and the extra step of cutting out the ribs, but all in all was pretty nice and sharp. He said that he has never sharpened it. I can't say that for my fillet knife. Any pro's and/or cons on the electric knives.

I use an old electric bread knife and that works like a champ. The blades are a little stiffer but I still can fillet the meat from the skin. The other thing is they are cheaper then the true electric fillet knives. I think you can pick on up for about $9 or $10 bucks.

I have the Rapala cordless. This is my second electric filet knife. I LOVE IT! The cordless is great because you don't need to worry about a cord or cleaning where there is power. As far a sharpening blades, I just buy new ones. They last quite a while and they aren't unbelievably expensive. You will get some of the traditional folks saying they aren't any good, but I haven't found anyone who has tried one for a while that didn't like it. Some things that work for me are, when I am doing the intitial fileting, I don't cut it all the way through the tail. Leave it attached to the fish and then flip it over to take the skin off. This allows you something to hold onto. You will lose a little meat because you have to take the rib cage off after, but most guys who have had an electric for a while can clean about 3-4 fish in the time it takes other to do 1 with a regular filet knife!! The only thing I wish was different about the Rapala i have is the placement of the blade removal button, I always put my thumb there when cleaning!!!

LOVE IT...........The only way to clean fish. I also use a electric bread knife. Found them at Walmart for $5 each. So I bought 2, at that price who cares if da blades go dull.

There really isn't that much meat on the ribs cage anywho.
