KITTIES are on the prowl

Once again September's here and as traditions go, the Red River's channel cats are begining to feed up for the winter!
Fishing's been tough for much of August, due to the exteme temperatures. Now that September's here and the water is cooling down, the cats are begining to prowl.
Yesterday Sept. 5th, the cats were quite aggressive even in the middle of the afternoon. By far the preferred bait was tullibee.
There's been more reports of walleye being caught on the river as well. Were all hoping for a steady increase of activity as the weeks go by.

Stu's right, fished from 3 til 7PM today and boated 9 kitties with only one under 20 lbs. We lost about another 10 and that was through the heat of the day. I have no idea where they went the later part of August but they sure are fat and hungry right now.

Howdy howdy howdy there Stu... Man I had to head in to the Doctor the other day and get some meds, going into withdrawls from not being able to make it up there only once this summer........ Good grief, full time employment is realy getting in the way of my fishing as of late..

What kind of flow are you getting up there with this low water. Is the dam even running all the gates open?

Doc said only cure is to make at least one last trip up there and visit Stu before the water cools off. Doctors orders I guess, hope the wife buys it..

Circle the hooks were going in..........

I was thinking hard on heading north, today.........but.

I got a big blood blister between two fingers on my left hand from a love MUNCH from a big cat last weekend, no big deal I thought..right.

Yaaaa..Soooo of course, I managed to get it infected and it spread up my arm. My left hand is a bit sore..OK..it really hurts...(Boo Hoo)..and it is kinda black and swollen like a bratwurst left on the grill too long. Bumping it is not cool, nope, I try to avoid that! I don't think I will stick it in a sumo cats chomper for a little while...nope-nope!

So, I am "Supposed to" keep it dry & clean...yada yada. They got me on some big horse pills so I can get the infection under control. Them suckers look like a 1 Oz egg weight Eh!

The big cats are on the chew up North, the walleye are on the bite here, Carver MN cat gathering sounds like a Hoot, and I have an OWWIE.....Boo-Hoo!

Yaa..whatever...good luck guys, catch a sumo for me while your at it.

Eh...carry some Owwie ointment and a band-aid.....ya never know.

Ya know...It ain't all that bad....heck...it's starting to look better already. wink.gif

My buddy and I are heading to Stu's on Monday, third trip of the year, can not get enought of that cat action, think I will have a fire sale on my musky tackle, no comparison at all compared to those Red River Cats at lockport. I am fired up, think I will go out in the garage and play with the clickers, okay I am not that sick, but it will be fun, am bringing 1 walleye rod and my jigs just in case, but walleyes are way back on the burner!

Ya..Ya..rub it in!

I have to be at a new part time fall type "Real Job" starting on Tuesday. But I am darn tempted to run up for a day before that...Eh!

Canuck you ever try heavy wire stand-up jigs rigged with frogs? I like using them on them Kitty's hunting the shallow sand and mud bars this time of year. That is a hoot boy, they whack them hard! You can score some sumo walleye on them too. wink.gif "Chompers" & "Scenic Tackle" both makes a good jig for this "Frog Fling'n" routine. They have a heavy wire hook in 4/0 and a wire snag guard to ward off old fishing line.

Ya never know, I may make a run North on Monday? Very tempting..yup!

How is the water level up there now? any troubles getting around up there as of late?

Hate to take the big boat if it is, like down here.. If it is I can bring the small boat..

Are the Green backs on the hit up there too Stu? Might just bring the eye rods also just in case we get too tired from the kitties..

Bring whatever boat your most comfortable in! The river's down approximately 1 1/2 feet, other than that there's no problem.

Not a lot of 'eyes in yet. We're catching sauger like there's no tomorrow, tasty little suckers aren't they!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
