grindstone help

mille lacs muskie bum

Smaller boats are easier here due to a shallow launch.Fishing seems to be better early in the year, according to the web page on dnr lake finder the lake IS NOT classified as a trout lake! They sure stock enouph trout in there though. This lake can be tough at times but it also can be rewarding as well!Lakers do grow large in this lake.Hope this helps.(Normal presentations work here, down riggers/threeways with Raps, sutton spoons/thin doctors to name a few.)Crawlers on a plain hook can be good too!Good troutinc63 smile.gifOh yea I cant forget the MONSTER NORTHERNS too! Were gonna need a bigger leader!c63 smile.gif

I also wanted to mention a crazy theory from some locals claim that this lake is connected to gitchigummi via "under lake springs"I dont buy it but it could explain some of the odd fish in there.Oh well it still is a very nice/fun lake to fish.Sometimes it reminds me of fishing in Manitoba.c63

hey chris yeah i am planning to hit grind this year, I plan on headin out there on the ice and in the open water this year. I'm still unsure on my approach through the ice but open water I am going to do what i have always done and that is the old fashioned 3oz bottom walker with the 6ft leader and work the deep breaks

Good luck n give me n update

Does anyone have any current reports on ice thickness on grindstone. I have ice fished it a few times with very suprising sucess. Ice there is scary though. found differences in thickness from spot to spot to vary by 6-10 inches. crazy.gif I, not being a local to GS, am weary of it early ice. (still early ice in st paul at least)
