Reel Lube

What do you use to keep your reels from freezing up during when you hit the ice. One the heater is turned on it is not an issue. I bought some of that Frabill anti freeze lube and was just wondering if it works ok? Also what part of the reels do most people lube, I usually lube the handle spindell and under the spool.

And no I dont use cheap reel, most of mine are Tica's and HT Masterpice 1750R's.

What you are going to want to do is remove the side cover off the reel so you can get at the gears inside. Most reels from the factory are packed with a thick grease on these gears. Use Q-tips, toothpicks, whatever you can to remove most of the grease off of the gears. Once you have the old grease cleaned up, then you can relube the gears with a good reel oil like the Frabill stuff, or I think I used Quantum Hot Sauce in mine.

I just picked up a couple more Ticas the other day so this is was a good reminder to take them apart and clean the grease out.
