I'm looking at portable shanties, was all set on getting a clam, but didn't really like the way the fabric fit at the bottom, I'm sure you could shovel little snow to seal it up but it seems like wind would blow right in if you didn't.I'm looking at a shappell DX4000 now, material isn't as good as the clam, but it is light for the size 66 lbs. I also saw the hole covers were hinged on the 4000, the clam uses wood covers, not sure which way to go or if there is another product better than both, I like the shack style vs the flip style and want a good sized one for room for 5 year old son to fish and move around a little

Try and Eskimo Lodge, it has good thick fabric and easy on the poket book. I bought my brother a a shapell and it's fabric is thin, gets really cold in his shack. if your going with kids you will want a lot of room and warmth. Don't want them to get sick on ya.

thanks, I'll check out the eskimo, I like the fabric on the clam , and I could see where storing the fabric inside, away from critters would be nice during off season
