Some ideas for places to shop when builing a new ice house.

Since I have built a couple of shacks now I thought I would pass on a few ideas of places you might not have thought about looking for materials for yours. We all know alot of places to get things from like the ice house manufacturers, or those home building centers, but here are a few others and I hope others have some as well for the next guy.

I got my windows from a local window company (not a manufacturer) here that were brand new and with a good U-value double pane thermo insulated glass etc... As I found out by calling around alot of places have them and if you ask for their "display" windows they are generally smaller and are perfect for your ice house project. I had my choice of several and none exceeding $30 each.

Picked up some beautiful marine linoleum at Mac's in Fargo, ND ( they are a surplus center). They had lots and really cheap. Places like that were also great for reflectors and clearance lights.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thought I'd bring this back to the top with some new ideas.

I wired my house with 12V DC cig lighter plugs all around the house that run off 2 deep cycle batteries in the house. Great idea for charging cell phones, VHF, the night light, and using the TV. But I also got a cig lighter adapter from a Auqa-View camera for $10 and use it to run/charge my Marcum. Saves on the battery. Just another 2 cent idea to consider if you build yourself a house.

I found led lights that were of all things used for motorcyles, back lighting to show off the chrome. A wireless remote to turn lights or an alarm system on and off. Also found am/fm cd,dvd player at a salvage yard out of a conversion van cheap. I started looking in my garage and could believe all the things I have picked up to try to use. I have been looking on boat websites to see what I can find. I going to use a cable box to clean up the wiring harness mess, to place the ground and hot leads in with a fuse blocks.
