Shotgun shells

I have some old shell I found in the garage, as usual, things get moved around in the garage. They are rusted and corroded. How can I dispose of the legally?

Cut the tops open with a box cutter and dump the shot out then take a needle nose and pull out the wad and dump the powder in your garden. In all reality it's probably easier to shoot them. On a side note without a chamber around them to focus the explosion, a shotshell detonating isn't as dangerous as one would think.

Drop them off at local police station. They will dispose of them.

Thanks....I forgot to add that these shells are probably 25 years old.

Dump them in a bucket a water and let them soak for a few days. That should make them inert enough to dispose of them as you see fit....
