Propane smell?

Is it common to get a little propane type smell after your tanks get low on propane? My Shack and camper both do it. Not when full, just when the furnace has ran for a few days. I know that it is low as soon as I open the door. Just curious. Anybody else have that problem? Thanks.

I get the same effect at home when the LP tank gets low. Was told once that the smelly additive is slightly denser than the gas, so it stays to the top of the tank. When the smell gets stronger, the gas-to-stink ratio decreases, more scent enters the furnace, but doesn't burn so the smell is stronger.
