I just brought a new cellphone from sprint, "last and the greatest", so sprint says. They say if I pay $11.00 more a month they can turn it into a garmin navagator. this means I can down load lakes right? I dont want to start paying for until I learn more, I went to the garmin web sight but didnt find much. has anyone had any experience with this.

my phone is a sanyo scp 8400, so if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

For $11 a month I would just go out and get a good hand held. I have really enjoyed my H2OC. Get a good Chip and you are golden. Up North I would get the Navionics but if you fish down south I would wait for the new Lakemaster. The Lakemaster has roads where the Navionics dont.

the GPS you mention is a navigator, designed to compete with the in-car models. While they do offer GPS and mapping capabilities, it is doubtful that they will be running any lakemaster or navionics type software anytime soon. Like Northlander said, for $11/mo go and buy a handheld GPS unit. The phone GPS is only good for driving directions or as a novelty. Since the GPS location is dependent on getting a good cellular signal and not a satellite signal, wherever you don't have service coverage, you won't get a GPS locate.
