ice friday night?

Recommended Posts

How much ice do all you think will form in the lakes and slough areas in south central MN with a low of 18-20 degrees friday night Saturday morning? Plan on doing some scouting to find some bird on water tomorrow night, I just want to figure out how much a pain it is going to be com moring with the ice! I have a 14 ft. jon and a trolling motor so I don't have much to work with!

delta, I wouldn't worry about too much ice I'm sure that smaller ponds and potholes will have a thin layer on them but if you're hunting a bigger body of water, or something a little deeper you should be fine. I'll be doing some scouting today for tomorrow mornings hunt. good luck!

All the small holes and some of the lakes were getting iced up on the last cold snap.. its not going to take much to put some ice on many lakes.

If it gets into the teens, toss a coin if its a bigger shallow body of water, and I would guess the potholes to get a significant amount of ice overnight (up to 1/2").

Some might depend on how mch the potholes warmed up during the really warm weather we had.. we might get lucky for a night only to find a skim coat.. a couple nights of cold and we got trouble.

That sounds like a great idea. All you would need to do is get about fifty feet of wire, with a switch. I think you can pick up a switch at any car parts store. Then connect one wire to the battery and the other to the wire that usually connects to the battery. That is brilliant!! Great Idea. I bet you could do it for under twenty bucks!!! And the best thing, that would be perfectly legal!!!
