reservoir fishing

This was brought up in the Patoka post and thought it was worthy of its own. Wonder how everyone goes about fishing these and your experiences on them. Since most of us are either lake boys or river rats we don't get much info on these. things to discuss: Seasonal patterns, current, current, current. And much more. That current stuff is what really throws me. thanks for any info anyone is willing to share. ike

Well it seems that a lot of times for me horizontal baits work better in reservoir systems. Spinnerbaits, traps, crankbaits, etc. Shad is the big deal in most reservoirs versus bluegill and crappies in northern natural lakes. Water clarity in general tends to be more stained and there isn't as much grass which makes cranking a lot easier. In the lakes I've fished I haven't paid any attention to the current and done well, but obviously there are times when it is the most important aspect of fishing a reservoir.
