jig n' jerk
I am planning on going to Denver this winter to visit some friends, go skiing, and hopefully get into some ice fishing. My question is what are some good trout/salmon lakes to try with in the denver area(willing to drive an hour or so). Are Granby and 11 Mile very close? As my trip gets closer you will probably see me again asking for basic lures and equipment to bring. Thanks in advance for any info. P.S. Looking mainly for rainbows, lake trout(Macks), and Kokanee. Dan DAN the fisherman
Both lakes mentioned are about 1.5hrs. Williams Fork about 2hrs. Green Mountain 2hrs. Wolford 2.5 hrs. Local lakes do freeze but, times change year to year. Some front range lakes do have some nice rainbows. Only lake closer to Denver with some Macs is Gross. Be carefull on the ice there. Hope this helped at all. Let me know if I can help more. Dan

jig n' jerk
I almost forgot, I recall reading about winter fly fishing in colorado also. Does the season stay open year around?

Welcome aboard jig and jerk!11 Mile is a bit out of the way. Where will you be skiing at? Your basic crappie rig or small walleye gear will work for rainbows thru the ice.We use jigs tipped with a meal worm or wax worm.
