Hawk on stark branches

I was struck by how the branches actually looked like tree trunks turned on their sides. Would have made the red-tailed hawk look odd, though, eh?

Canon 20D, Canon 100-400L IS at 400mm, iso100, 1/250 at f10, handheld. Converted to B&W in photoshop by desaturating.

Boy you are right Steve, if it wasn't for the hawk you would swear that the picture was turned on its side.

Very nice Steve! Why did you decide to go black and white? I have had a few images that I've converted to B&W for various reasons, just wanted to see if your reasons are the same. I love the composition.

I convert to B&W when the elements of the composition are so few and so basic that color would distract from the composition pattern, not add to it.
