cheesehead
An ex coworker was telling me that thhe used to put mink manure into his garden each fall. does anybody know if this is a good or bad idea? I live in the city and want to stay away from cow manure due to the smell.
Steve Foss
Well, you can use fresh manure if you want to, but it stinks no matter what the species, because it's all fresh shnit. Better to buy 40lb bags of composted manure from a greenhouse or WalMart. They're cheap, somewhere around $2 or $3 per bag, and it retains all the nutrients of manure without the odor. You can spread a layer about an inch thick on your garden, or thinner, even, and let the snowmelt leach it in in spring or till it in now or in spring.
