Cooter, walleye74, picksbigwagon , or eskay Red Ceder Questions

Recommended Posts

You guys seen to be the most knowledgeable about Red Cedar, And thats picks for the pionters but I thought this might be my best bet for some greatly needed help. We are going up over the 28-30 of Oct. and I know fish around the Twin cities are just starting to stage up with the colder weather ar things similar there. I am staying at stouts lodge so I am also looking for a close bait shop and liquer store. I did post some other questions about slip bobbering and some jig anchored or drifting with I think like a 1/4 oragnge jig. minnows are all that works around here no crawlers or leeches. Thaks you for any help.

I have never fished R Cedar in the fall but would think a jig/minnow or slip bobber minnow rig would be the way to go - I wouldn't hesitate to try some walleye sized suckers in addition to fatheads. I've always done better with a slip bobber and orange hook rig vs a jig but thats always been early summer with leeches. Hopefully you'll get some bonus pig smallies with the eyes. Don't forget to try some trolling with Rapala type minnow baits either. For bait, the gas station in Mikana(right by the (Contact Us Please)) has always had bait and beer, I think booze as well wink.gif For spots I'd start fishing rocky points and submerged rock piles. You got a good one right on the west side of Stout, plus another one not to far to the south of that, I believe there is a marker bouy(sp?) on that one. Another good spot would be the last point on the west side of the lake at the north end of Cedar before you go under Hwy 48. Its a nice point and there is a small, shallow bay on the inside of it - can't miss it. That whole area from there to the bridge and back around the other side is a popular trolling area, although I've never tried it. Finally try to get a good map or talk to someone about the rock piles out from the (Contact Us Please) channel on the south end of Cedar. There are at least two of them, probably three that top out around 12-14'. A good way to get in the vacinity is to start near the entrance of the (Contact Us Please) channel and head straght across the lake until you get roughly in line with the island to the south - you will be in the ball park then. Do you have access to a fax? I can send you a marked map or maybe picksbigwagon would make a copy of the one I sent him and fax it to ya. Later.

Thanks a lot for the help, is the (Contact Us Please) from the HSOforum? I think you are reffering to the marina where they have gas at the dock. I do have access to a fax, let me know what the best why to get that to you is. Can I give you an email address or will they yell at me for that too?

I haven't been out myself , been hunting mostly, but I've been hearing that the walleyes are active along the rocky shorelines on husky jerks and shad raps. The shoreline along the golf course is a good place to start. Gold husky jerks and crawfish shad raps and you can't go wrong. I'm hearing that the new deep tail dancer is working good if you want to try a little deeper.

Since you're staying at Stout's, try the rocky humps and the shallows on the east side of the island. The main hump is marked with a bouy, so you should easily find it.

As Cooter said, the convenience store in Mikana has all your bait and refreshment needs

Good luck, I'm heading to LOW tomorrow to try for some muskies, and see if we can locate the crappies.

Cool, just keep in mind those are just some suggestions and areas I've had luck with in June. You'll like the lake, plenty of structure to fish, both weeds and rock. Watch out for those jumbo rock bass wink.gif

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
