Florida fishing tips sought

Come next spring, the family is headed to Disneyworld/etc. As part of the vacation, we're thinking of trying to set up a "deep sea" fishing trip in that general area. Can anyone offer advice? Where? When? Who? What to ask? How much? Other Web sites? We're on a budget, but then again, it is vacation. Thanks for any suggestions.

There are many Charters availible out of Clearwater - google Clearwater Charter Fishing and you'll find what you need. If the kids are young - say under 10 or even 12 you may wish to rethink or take a shorter trip - they book by 4 hrs, 6 hrs and 8 hrs usually. Take dramamine if you've not been out before - I've seen many a miserable soul turn green and chum the sea with their breakfast. Even on a calm day the roll of the Gulf can getcha if you're not accustomed to it.

Costs will run from around $400 to $1600 depending on the length of the trip and particular charter. The deckhands tip isn't included and is the way he/she makes his living - he'll clean the fish as well, customary is 15-20% of the trip cost (depending on helpfulness and number of fish to clean in my opinion) I'd go for the bottom fishing (Snapper/Grouper/Amberjack) you'll likely see a bit more consistent action than chasing the other fish. Could also look into a party boat - they are bigger and have set departure times, you fish off the side with 50-75 other folks - usually not as productive, but is much less expensive (40-60 a head from memory)

We went bass fishing right on Disney property in February. Even though it was a slower time, we boated 6 nice largemouth. (The middle of March is when the fishing picks up.) They are all guided trips on pontoons. We took 2 kids with us, an 11 year old and an 8 year old, and they loved it.

I am not sure the cost, since my hubby gave the trip to me for a Valentine's day gift, but he wouldn't have done that had it not been reasonable.
