Engine Overheating question

DinkADunk

Question

I have a 2004 Johnson 140HP, 4 stroke (aka Suzuki) and last night I was running at about 4500rpm (WOT is 6000) for a couple of minutes, I trimed it up a wee be too much for a second then trimed it back down a bit and the overheat alarm went off and the motor shut down. It's been peeing fine and I wasn't running any weeds just wondering if the water pump might be going out. Any thoughts? It worked fine all night trolling or off plane and after the incident it worked well at WOT (I wasn't on plane for as long a period of time). Just wondering if it needs to go into the shop. I plan on hooking up the hose tomorrow and flushing it good.
