arcticcat400
hello, i own a 2000 polaris sportsman 500 and was out on some gravel roads the other day and everything was working fine but when i went to hit the brakes so slow down a little i could pull the hand brake all the way to the handle bar and didnt slow down any same with the footbrake so i just let off the throttle and took it easy till i got home and i tool the cover off checked the brake fluid and it looked good so i pumped the brake lever a few times and got my front brakes to start working again but they grind when i hit them hard so im thinking it needs new brake pads, but the back brakes still dont work at all???so i was wondering if anyone knew why they would have stopped working and then started working again and also why the front brakes started working again but the back ones are still not working any help would be greatly appreciated
Macgyver55
They may just be worn out or the pads can actually delaminate from the metal shoe when they get old or too wet. Its quite possible you lost a pad from your brakes if they are grinding and it happened all at once. That can explain a sudden loss of braking ability. I'd suggest pulling off both front and rears and checking and replacing the pads if needed. They are easy to do.
