New to the game

Recommended Posts

I started hunting ducks again for the last couple yrs since the late 80's early 90's and am truly addicted. I purchased a early goose permit last year and never used it, due to not having any goose decoys. Well, I'm pretty well set up for ducks now so I suppose it's time to start with the geese. Gotta spend the money on something right? Anyways, I picked up a dozen shells yesterday at Cabela's and a 4 pack of floating dekes today at Fleet Farm. With this new dent in my pocket I'm going out tonight. I think for short notice I'll try the river outside of the metro goose area...probably wont see much but its worth a shot. Nobody else I know hunts geese so its a solo thing and tips would be appreciated...I've been lurking and reading through the posts already...it's awesome. Great info guys. I'll just throw this out there too..cant hurt...if there are any other solo hunters that would like to get together shoot me an email..or if someone has an opening for a rookie gooser, I'm you huckleberry. Shot my first goose last year hunting ducks..it was awesome and after using a recipe from this site...they tast awesome too!! Cant wait to get more...so wish me luck I'm off. I'll check my email tonight before I hit the hay, hope to hear from some fellow addicts, if not good luck to all this weekend!!

Well, that was a quick, "hunt", got to the landing and could not get the motor going. Tried for a loooooooooooong time. I just used it last month and it ran and started fine...guess i get to work on that this weekend. Didn't see any geese using the river anyways, did see some fly over however. Maybe things will work out better on the morrow.

Well, went to go see what was wrong with the motor on Sat. pulled the plugs out and checked for spark..good..put them back in. Gave it a few pumps, three pulls...and she roared back to life...would'nt you know it. Oh well, least its working again..for now. Went out today on the Minnesota river down my LeSeur, didn't get out till noonish..stayed till six...didn't see a thing not even on the very long boat ride back..oh well. FYI for anyone planning on this trip...the river is extremely low, excersise extreme caution. I had to pull the boat through a couple places. I need to find some fields to hunt. I really like my new deks at least they look good. Four eliminator dekes and a dozen Green Head somethin or other shells with motion stakes..very real looking. Now if I could just show them to some real geese! It was nice to be out in this nice waterfowling weather!! I love it!
