Heading up to Northern Light

Recommended Posts

Heading up to NL Sept 6-11. Last time up there was two years ago and fishing was poor-to-fair. Heard the walleye catching has slowed down. Has anyone have some recent reports?

I talked to a lot of people who were up this year and SLOW is the word for eyes. All the bass you want though. I canceled my annual trip because last year was very poor and I guess it isnt any better this year.

I hate to be a downer but I know you want the truth. frown.gif

we went there for years..we go elsewhere now ,you may want to try up in trefalger, its a bit of a run, but we had done well there in august last year, there is also a nice reef just before the pinch headed up there by a campsite and a big rock troll along there with a crawler ( its on your left headed up) not so many bass around there for some reason. also we actually have doen well right in fornt of NLR on the reef (its marked with a jug)

Your reports were quite accurate. 6 guys caught about a dozen keeper walleyes (biggest 18 inches). Did fish trafalger bay 4 times. Lots of 2-4 lb northerns and pesky small bass. Everyone else up there echoed the same - where are the walleyes ?? Had frost in the morn the last 3 days. Oh well, at least the scenery was great.

I would think they still are but I sure dont know where. I tried everything from downrigging to pulling boards and sticks/cranks to boards and spinners etc. Almost every eye I caught was on a spin n glow and crawler but a few on a slip bobber and leech late evenings. I wont go back til I hear its gotten better.

The Canadian biologists were there last year checking out the water. They couldnt say what they found.

I have a thought that there are so many smallmouth that a eye cant get to your bait 1st. Those smallies up there are crazy. I caught them in 1' to 32' of water! I will say most of the eyes I did catch were on deep reefs. 22'to 34'.
