Crickschop04
I have a Ford Ranger w/ a topper and have canoes I can use and was thinking of getting a kayak. How do you suggest to transport them. Do the foam trucktop carriers work? Is it worth the money for a name brand rack or can I get away with just a generic ladder rack???
Powerstroke
You can definately get away with a generic ladder rack, but the price of a ladder rack (4 corners coving the entire bed or topper) is pretty high too and it needs to have open sides in order to accomadat ethe width of 2 boats. Also there are better ways to strap down a kayak if you have the kits designed for a brand name rack system. These kits don't lose their value much. I bought one special order for my F150 and I sold it 1 year later. I received 75% of the original cost for it. I think the Yakima or Thule systems are worth their price in quality and versatility.
