Eds
Who's canoed the Rum River and why? St. Croix is great but Rum might be a quieter, smaller option
Powerstroke
I've canoed the Rum a couple of times and I haven't repeated the smea entry/exit point yet. There are so many options for taking all day trips or even overnight trips. The hardest part is having to leave a vehicle at the launch and landing or have someone drop you off at your starting point. There are a few websites that you can check water levels on the river. They also measure water flow. I went last year during a very wet period and we were moveing at 5-6mph without paddling. A friend of mine canoed a large section of the Rum in June and she said it was the lowest she's ever seen while paddling.

Deepinthewoods
I've floated the Rum a few times. It is a nice sized river but water levels can be really low (rocks) or really high (flooded) during summer and fall. Definitely something to check before heading out. Of 4 day trips, I've had one many years ago with several 3# smallies, one with a nice mixed bag of smaller fish, one almost skunked with the only fish being an 8-10# pike, and one skunk (high water). If fishing is slow you can always drink the river water and pretend it is rum.
Eds
With the rain we just got, shouldn't that have bumped up the flow at least a little?
Guest
Went form the Park to 155th yesterday. The rain brought it up 3-4 inches over last week. Almost all the smallies we caught had rubs on the top, must be from the motors running in the shallows. What a great float for peace and quiet!!!! Guest
Water was slow as was the fishing. There are countless good looking spots on this river. But nothing doing, any reasons why? This aws a good river though, for introducing some friends, yes they were ladies, to canoeing and river paddling. But we just couldn't figure out the fish. One guy fly fishing and the other running the gamut of lure. Rapalas, plastics, top water, spinners and managed only 3 fish. That's the name of the game sometimes but we had a blast, so you can never beat a weekend on a nice little river like that.
