Troublehook
How do you find deeper weedlines that you cant see? I have a sonar and I know what weeds look like on that, so I guess I can find the edge of the weeds, but I don't know for sure which direction the line is going. Actually I may have answered my own question, is it usually following the shore? What about the ones that are closer to the middle of a lake, then how do you know which direction the weed line goes, so you can stay on top of it while you troll? Wait, I may be getting realy good at answering my own questions. Do you just find two different areas where the weeds end and follow those two points to make a line, kind of like a corrdinate chart/graph ( if thats what they are called.) So am I right, or wrong. What are some other tips you have? thanks. TH
Slyster
I just slowly go deeper and deeper.. knowing what weeds look like on the graph.. and as the bottom goes down.. suddenly.. the weeds stop and there's a flat bottom! Wallah!
BAIT956
TH, you've got the right idea. Bear in mind that many if not most weedlines are irregular. Actually these bends, fingers and points are what you are looking for as many times fish will hang on them. An inside bend or the deepest point on a weedbed may hold the mother lode. Close attention to your finder will also show you differences in bottom type, harder or softer, or a change in weed type, often a key to holding fish. A change for instance, from coontail to curly leaf pondweed (cabbage) is often important. Take some time to do like you said, find two areas where the weeds end and crisscross the area between, following bends and points extending. Use markers to establish the ends of the weedbed. Until you know an area from experiece, you may have to spend a lot of time learning it. Find a few of these spots, establish a milkrun and your chances greatly improve over fishing half blindly.
