Guest
That is one of the strangest recipies I have ever heard of.I think I will have to try it!!What is the purpose of the 7up?Is it just for flavor or does the carbonated water do something? Maryjl
The 7up adds kind of a sweet taste to the fish. I also thought it was strange at first but it is very good. They called it Poor Mans Lobster. Give it a try I promise you won't be disapointed.
Guest
Deluxe fish sandwich, always a hit around here with a cold beer, after a day on the ice. Take as many BONELESS crappie, walleye, perch, pike or whatever you like to catch, coat with a mixture of flour, cornmeal, breadcrumbs, pepper, garlic powder or whatever seasonings suit your fancy. Fry fillets on meduim high heat, with a little butter or oil. meanwhile, place sliced hoagie rolls cut side down on a lightly oiled griddle till medium brown. Add a generous slather of tarter sauce or mayo to both sides of the rolls. add fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, pickles, and fried fillets. Serve with chips or fries. MMM I also love a good cup of New England style chowder, substitute chucks of your favorite fish for the clams, the recipe on the infisherman's HSOforum seems fairly decent, goes great in a thermos for a midday snack while on the ice. Guest
I was guiding a group one time who didn't want to "waste" a single minute of fishing by doing shore lunch. They told me they would take care of everything for lunch, sandwich materials, chips, kool-aid, etc.Our day was going along just fine until we get to lunch time, and they realized that they had forgotten the lunch meat and cheese. We had potato chips, a loaf of bread, a small tub of margarine, and some cookies - and a very hungry crew who were looking at my anchor rope as they spoke of lynching the poor guy who left things back at camp...We ended up making a fire, I cleaned up a mess of walleyes and we rolled the fillets in crushed potato chips, and fried them in margarine in a beat up old metal cake pan that I used as a crush-proof container for sunglasses, camera, etc. No silverware of course, so we had potato-chip walleye sandwiches.Darn was that good! I have done that several times since, and it is always a hit.
Guest
Pete, What's that saying!!! Oh yeah!!!Necessity is the mother of all of inventions. I was fishing a very large lake in Northern Canada a very long time ago when the impeller went out on our rental motor. We were about 9 miles from camp on a very deserted lake, with no food other than a couple of candy bars. We ended up spending the night out on an island before someone came by the following morning. Anyway for dinner that night we ended up gutting the walleyes we had caught and cooking them over an open fire on a stick. The trick was you couldn't let them cook all of the way through or they would fall off of the stick into the fire I still can't stand the sight of fish being cooked whole Paul
