spinners / bottom bouncers etc..

Anyone prefer the new bottom bouncers (long weighted 'L' shaped wire w/ weight) over the old lindy no slip or just bell sinkers? I am worried that the wire will produce a ton of noise (like a guitar string) and its size will spook the eyes. I used to try to keep a bell weight just above bottom (pain in the a$$).

I also use the pre rigged cabelas 72" flouro spinners (love em) anyone else like these?

When running spinners do you use elec or main motor?

Let me know what you guys / gals prefer.... Thanks!

I use the Northland bulk lead colored ones, because I can get them on off easy. I put them just above the swivel. The new kind you are asking about I would gusse are for people that fish rocks a lot, because they are made for the weight if it got cought to come off and save the spinner or bait you have on.

When running spinners it depends at what speed you want to go and what the wind and waves are doing, some times in high wind you can just drift, in flat water you can use the trolling motor, If you want to go into the wind, you may have to fire up the big motor, if you have a 40-75 hp this may work but if you have a 140-200 hp it may be to much.

Sometimes the wind will keep you going but I use the trolling motor to keep me on the strucure I am fishing.

The bottom bouncers you're talking about work great. I haven't had any problems with them snagging, and I do fish rocks quite a bit. They also don't seem to have any negative effect on the fishing. I'm thinking that it makes more of a click than a twang. Could actually be sort of a fish caller... tongue.gif

As far as the spinners goes... I tie my own.. never tried the Cabela's ones, or the Northalnds, or the Lindy/Little Joe ones. Use whatever line I feel is right for the situation, be it flouro, mono, even a braid now and then, but I don't really recommend that very much. I like the control over the blade size, shape, color, bead selection, etc. that making your own gives you. cool.gif

I use the trolling motor mostly, you only need to go fast enough to get and keep the blade spinning... which is a lot slower than most people think. I prefer to slow troll like that when using spinners or Lindy rigs. Gives the fish a few extra seconds to think about it if they're in a neutral or negative mood. grin.gif

Sounds great - I have 3 sizes: 1/2 oz, 1 oz, & 2 oz for high current or faster speeds. Seems like they will be much easier than trying to keep a bell weight from snagging or just off bottom. Do you use them in claer lakes? I had heard they may not be best in clear water.

Just go with a longer snell. Since the weight is in front of your swivel or line connector, if you have a little bit longer snell, you'll be far enough away from the weight and not make a difference.

Don't forget, though, the snell length affects the way that your bait will ride in the water. find a length that keeps the bait in front of the fish or just a little bit above them, and I highly doubt that the weight will affect any bitees you might get.
