When its mid-summer and hot like this with lower water levels,am I better off going after channels and if so,what would be my choice of bait? Thank you in advance.

Its best to keep a variety of bait on hand. Suckers are sometimes ok, mooneyes and tulibee work good if you know anyone with anything laying around, smelt, shad, cut bullheads, raw chicken breast with a garlic maranade (dont ask)... and just about every bait that is illegal in this state works great!

That Guy, as for cut bait, which of the following would you prefer? Ciscos or smelt for channels?

i use smelt when im down trying for channels, last time down got a 20 1/2 lb channel and lots of 5 to 10 lbers. but cut up suckers did just about as well.

pug... I dont think I have ever noticed a difference between the 2, or had both on hand at one time. If I did, a dont recall if one worked better than the other that day.. if one did, it probably wouldnt make a difference because it would change tomorrow with the way my luck is going ths year.

Seems like some of us have been cursed with that luck. I am sure you've been out twice, if not 3 to 4 times as much as me. I think I am about 20-40% as far as trips with fish (not skunked). My biggest being 12 . I can't wait to free myself up a little more for fishing.

I tried smelt today. Bites, but I assume they were little thiefs. I tell you what though, I loved the smell of them. I'd use them over suckers anyday. The fillets on the rocks kind of made my mouth water.

I know that feeling too! It's kind of hard keeping everything chilled out there on the rocks though.
