What do you classify as night fishing?

I think I am going to take the big plunge and do some night fishing. Is it like fishing from 12AM to 4AM. I fished passed sunset an hour but I think when "real" night fisherman say nite fishing they mean really late??

I've found that the allnighter's can get a tad slow from about midnight to four (but considering if you have sun or flat calm days, fishing at night can be a whole lot better). By about 4, some nights the dew is nice and clammy in the boat and can make it a little miserable. Bugs normally seem to fade off an hour after dark. If you where locked in for a trip and the day bite was brutal...........I'd siesta in the afternoon, and fish til about 1 a.m. or until I figured the bite was done.

There was a certain time of year that I used to go out night fishing around 12am, and fish till around 3am, on a river and was producing alot of bass and walleye, and the occasional lunker that broke my rod in half (sturgeon maybe?) I was using crappie minnows, fishing right at the dam, offshore. It was fun, and at that time the skeeters tend not to be out.

Hi Tom,

We're doing WBL tonight, and going to stick around for a couple hours after dark. Swing on out if you can! I'll look for the Ranger (drooling), we'll be in my partner's Mirrocraft tonight, not my ride.

Chris,

I got out there last nite and we got 2 40" skis and I lost a much bigger one at the boat. All the action happened the first 30 minutes after sunset 8:30 - 9:00. Fished until 10:15 and nada.

A Musky guide stopped to see how I was doing when I first got out there and he had been out from 12noon to 5:30 and said he hadn't seen a fish despite what appeared to be perfect conditions with low pressure and light rain (there was an East wind however). I said he should hang in there as a "window would open up" but his back was not up to it. He mentioned that fishing has been tough this year with the high temps.

We should consider giving it a try together for the new moon.

Hi Tom,

Congrats on a good night!!

Yes, we DEFINITELY need to do that a bit more, I'd love to hook up with you for an evening, one boat or both, pending on any partners. I'm heading up north tomorrow for a week's vacation (much needed). I'm not bringing the muskie gear, looking to relax and target a few bass and pannies, but not throw the heavy stuff.

Here's my email address, drop me a note and I'll get in touch upon my return. chris<dot>haider@target<dot>com

How were water temps? It was still cookin' last week at 81 degrees.

See ya on the water soon!

Chris
