opti-max plug replacement

Slim Pickens

Question

I have the 135 opti max and winteriz3ed it last year and this year already and have had the same problem both times. Replacing the bottom plug on the left side.what a frustrating process this is. Last year I must have done it wrong because it took only a quarter turn to take out and this would explain why it was running poorly this year. What is the best way to do this? Is there a special tool? because I have done everything else and left that plug for now. PLEASE HELP

Just remove the lower pan, only held on by 6 or 8 screws. Make sure that the threads did not get destroyed, if did looking at a new head. It is real easy to to do, stainless plug in aluminum head.

What are you doing to winterize it? I hope not fogging it, as you are not supposed to fog those engines from what a few dealers have told me and Merc warranty. I have a 150 Opti and looked at doing the same thing before I asked around. If last year was the first year you serviced it yourself that might have contributed to its ill-running...?

I concurr with the above plug removal method.
