SNF Trout

DEADhead

Recommended Posts

Was up in the Superior National Forest/BWCAW last week chasing trout. Got into some beautiful brookies and managed to get a few nice pictures of them to boot. Also caught a few fat rainbows for shorelunch that evening.

Fishing was slow for most of the week. I tried to use everything I had except for worms. I didn't want to be "that guy" on this trip. However, after getting outfished by my wife everyday of the week, not to mention getting skunked several days, I threw a worm on a slip bobber rig and went worm dunking on our last day of fishing. I set the depth a few feet above the historical dpeth of the thermocline. I found the deepest part of the lake according to the bathymetric map, and targeted fising around the point near the deep water. My wife and I both found success; my luck turned around and I finally managed to catch a few trout. Now I'll know which tactic to start off with on next year's trip.

thanks Andy! They sure are beautiful fish. My wife always thought rainbows were prettier, I kept saying I thought brookies were. After she saw the shades of blue and lavender around the red spots she quickly agreed with me grin.gif
