Help painting a RAM-X (plastic) canoe

Powerstroke

Question

I have a coleman ram'x canoe and it is BRIGHT RED!! Well, it used to be, now its UV-degraded to a dark pink, but its still not appropriate for duck hunting in.

Has anyone had experience painting this kind of material? Supposedly its made of polystyrene.

I believe "Ram-X" is ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) and I do not know of any paint that will stick to that material. Your best bet may be something like Camo-clad if you are trying to camoflague the boat.

It certainly could be ABS material. I have no idea.

I just remember for some reason that "polystyrene" came up in the last 7 yrs that I've owned it and its stuck in my head.

Funny you mentioned the camo cladding. I was thinking the same thing this afternoon, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Search the Internet for it. I found a place there where you could buy it from the manufacturer that supplies Camo-Clad, but that was several years ago and I don't remember who it was. It's pretty expensive stuff, but it works pretty well and isn't too tough to put on. It has held up well on the top of an ABS kayak I did up a couple years ago, so I'm happy with it.
