Last ditch effort...

So I had a long weekend and really haven't tangled with anything of decent size. And today is last day before it's back to the salt mine. But, I had talked to a guy the other night that mentioned the channel cats were hitting during the day below the dam near Granite Falls. And being the die-hard opportunist that I am, it's dam or bust.

Anyone do worth a darn the past few days?

So my last ditch effort was basically for naught. Two small channel cats and a nice boat ride. However, I did get a small thrill of sorts...

I was daydreaming and looking in general direction of where my line was when a fish jumped about 10 feet from the boat. Not a carp either. A sturgeon. About 24-25 inches, but a sturgeon for sure. Its back was straight at me and the diamond pattern was unmistakable. I had never seen one in the wild before that. Made my day, sort of.

I've seen them little shovelnose jump out of the water on the Minnesota before too. Pretty cool! The one I really remember had its belly facing me and you could see the shovel/anvil shaped head on it plain as day!

Big ones jump as well! And they jump when you are fighting them on rod & reel! Now I've got to go digging for a photo...

I have to thank I Da Man for taking that photo of us in Dennis's boat..

I think I could hear Dennis's eye sockets stretching out as his eyeballs were trying to pop out of his head.. hanson just looked like a kid in a candy store.. a grin from ear to ear.

I'll never forget that day on the water.

Ok.. I'm done rambling.
