HuskerBen
Does anyone in town sell frogs for use as bait? Or know of a better way of catching them than scrambling around on hands and knees on a riverbank, hoping to grab one of those slimy little buggers? big musk411
I would like to find a place to buy frogs too, but dont know any. I have seen a frog spear head for sale a Dick's for about $3. You put it on a broom hanble or wood dowell. Probably will kill the frog, but I thik dead frog would be better than no frog.
catman71
an old man the has a camper next to mine fishes for bass all the time. he uses frogs and since he is not fast at all anymore he made a frog net that that works so great I am suprised i have never seen another one. It is basically a small net about 1-1/2 feet in diameter with fine mesh (so the frogs can't get out) and a handle that looks like a weed whipper. the handle shaft is bent 45 degrees so the net is parallel to the ground and always very close to the ground (like you have a metal detector) the handle has 2 grips (again picture a weed whipper) and he walks around in the tall grass and just looks for frogs and puts the net over them when they hop. the net part is so far in front of you it seems that you really don't spook them at all. He lets me use it all the time and I am about as slow as they come and even I can catch all the frogs I want.Hope that all made sense.
HuskerBen
I'll have to give that a try. When I was a kid, I carried a BB gun to shoot frogs and sand toads. That was private land, though. Can't do that where I fish. Ben
big musk411
I built a frog net simalar to the one Katman described this weekend. I was unable to find a butterfly net, but found a leaf skimmer for a swimming pool. I screwed it on the end of a wooden dowell. It worked great, I was ablet to get about 10 frogs in 15 minuts. Needless to say it was a good weekend of catfishing

MachineHead
I used to use a hook and piece of red yarn (on a cane pole)when I was a kid to catch bullfrogs in Michigan. They would chase it down. Seen another thing that Europeans (French guy IIRC) use to catch frogs...a ball that was red (and maybe white) in the same manner. Drag it along the lilypads and right into a waiting net with frog hot on its heels.Doubt if a leopard frog has the tenacity of a bullfrog to chase that stuff down though.
