It's usually fairly clean, but depending on the weather, it can get pretty rank. Twice in the past I've seen it very nasty, once it actually foamed up green after 3 or 4 days of hot calm weather. The only other lake that I've ever seen that bad was Poinsett, and it was worse during the same weekend that Thompson foamed up. I was actually worried that it'd plug my water pump impellor on Poinsett. Normally this doesn't happen because the wind turns it over fairly well, but if it's hot and calm for a few days, it can have heavy algal growth due to the fact that it's fed mostly by runoff from agricultural land.
