We had a great weekend as far as weather goes and since the water had cleared up a little, we decided to do a little fishing. We packed up a lunch and the beach chairs and headed down to the river.

We went to a spot that had easy access and a good flat area so the kids could play a little. Not what I would consider a prime fishing area, but those places are not always kid friendly.

Within 5 minutes my daughter hooked her first smallie. It had a couple of good jumps and the kids got a big kick out of it. The fish were a little jumpy, so the kids had dad hold them for the picture. wink.gif

A few minutes later my son got his smallie.

Things slowed a bit and my daughter got a white perch a little later.

My son got a rockbass a little later but we did not get a picture.

We kept the trip short a sweet so the kids would leep interested. Then we headed out to get an ice cream to finish off the adventure.

What other species are in the Missisquoi River?

Matt,

I was on the lower end of the Missisquoi river which is connected to Lake Champlain. There are the normal panfish (white+yellow perch, sunnies, etc.), crappie (at times), northern pike, pickerel, largemouth, smallmouth, bowfin, catfish, brown bullhead, walleye, drum (aka sheepshead),carp, suckers, and a few old muskies left from a stocking program.

What you catch depends on where and when you fish. I'm still trying for a musky. I will be like winning the lottery for me when I get one. wink.gif

Sorry I've been missing for a while. I had some stuff that needed my attention.

Wow! Looks like you have quite the smorgasbord of fish in that area. Where does a person begin!? smile.gif

I landed my first real muskie (the 3-pounder when I was 12 doesn't count wink.gif) while throwing for bass in a tourny. I haven't really targeted muskies, I guess it's one of those patience things grin.gif

I did notice in one of your other posts that you landed some nice pike. Are there a lot of large pike in that area? It seems like I hear of a lot of nice fish caught out there in regards to pike. Minnesota lakes are full of those 2-3 pounders (slimers)...

There are some nice pike, but a lot of smaller ones. Mostly a management issue. I hope it gets addressed soon so I can stop being the sqeeky wheel with the biologist. wink.gif I'd like to see a slot limit, but we will see what happens.

Yes, there a lot of species to choose from. Some being easier to find then others.

LOL.....I could move out there, but then I would have to learn how to use a flasher. confused.gifgrin.gif

We have the potential for some world class fishing right here in VT. The previous leadership was more about politics and the new one is more about doing the right thing. So, that is a step in the right direction. The biggest problem we have is that our biologists are so overloaded it's hard for them to get to everything. I think they are a good group of people who will do the right thing once they get the time to do it.

That would be great. Let me know when you are sending me that free unit. wink.gif While you are at it, send me a VS560 grin.gif...I had to sell me VS500 last winter. frown.gif

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
