Fishing Brookston

Me and some friends are heading to Brookston on Saturday night to see if we can catch some cats. This is the first time we have tried this. I am wondering where we should go, what we should use (bait)and how to rig the line. I am guessing a slip sinker and leader, but don't know how much weight to use.

what pound test will work up there.

Any info would be great, Thanks guys,

I would reccomend getting out there a couple hours befor dark. You will want to start out with crawlers and try to catch a redhorse. Hopefully you will get one or two. Cut the redhorse into chunks for cut bait. I would get some sucker minnows as a back up. I would rig up with as slip sinker and circle hook with about a 18" leader. Your weight amount will very depending on depth and current. Med spinning with 8-10lb will work, I like a medium baitcaster with a clicker with about 12-15lb test.

I typically fish pretty shallow in fast current. The bite should be good starting at dusk.

i have had luck in that area with whole sucker minnows with the belly slit but the way to go is frogs. i woud't fish without them. 1 1/2 - 3 oz. shoud hold them in the current fine. good luck hope you land a 10lbs er.
