Channel rod

I have a king kat rod and was looking at buying another cat rod.What should I use for a channel and flathead rod.The king kat is 8' so would it be a better for which one?Thanks.

I think the King Kat will works for flatheads, but it is probably not ideal, especially for fishing around cover. I have the same rod, it was my first cat rod. If you plan on targeting flatheads frequently, I would pick up a dedicated flathead rod. There are many choices depending upon your fishing situation. I've got a MH Quantum Big Cat that fits the bill quite nicely. It's 7'6", so it'll work well from shore or boat. Like mentioned before, the Glowsticks are nice and a little lighter duty than the Big Cat. UglyStik Tiger rods are great flathead rods. The sweetest rod I have come across is the Jim Moyer "Boss" rod. They're a little more spendy, but man are they nice. Just ask PierBridge

Good info Ryan, Harvey not sure if I'm going to make it this weekend or not but if I do you can check out my Jim Moyer "BOSS" Rod a little spendy at $70 but I really like it so far.

My backup Flathead pole is 8' South Bend Catfish Special Med/Heavy action that I picked up at Sports Authority "sportmart" on sale for $20 "sorry Manny " the handle is a little short but it seems to work OK.

I would go with a minimum of 14-30lb test "rating" for line weight in a Flathead pole.

Pier, maybe if I spring for a "Boss" it will help me catch fish. Nevermind the other two new combos I've bought this year that have yet to put a flathead in my hands
