Lake Owasso Launch?

Recommended Posts

Going to hit new water for me Wed. afternoon..Lake Owasso to be precise. I'd be happy to share any information I gather, in exchange for a report on how the public launch is....

Beg, Wheedle, Whine....

The launch at Owasso is good. There are 2 ramps that were good when I put my boat in this year. You may have to park a bit farther down the road by the beach since there are only about 6 spots right by the launch. If you get there before 4 you shouldn't have any trouble parking.

Just a warning on Wednesdays, the Courage Center takes physically challenged people skiing and boating so there will be a few boats, jet skies, and sheriffs out on the water. You shouldn't have too much fishing competition though (aside from me if I get a chance!), the weekdays are typically quiet on Owasso. Good luck tomorrow.

Many thanks for the info! Naturually, I only have Wed. to try after work this week, so I'll try to get there early. No worries on the sherrif, the boat and the truck are properly tagged and licensed. If you see a clueless type in a Black Lund Fisherman, say howdy!

I'll do a follow up later...

Thanks again!

A little clarification on getting there early. If you are there before 4 you should get a spot right by the ramps, otherwise there is still plenty of parking down by the beach. I may be trolling around in my crappy 14 foot yellowish, greenish, silverish boat with 15 horse mercury. I may see you out there~Dan

Man, I am SO irritated...hauled the boat up to the cities, with every intention of leaving at noon to hit the lake.

Went out to take the cover off, and do my pre-launch checks, and found I'd left the boat keys at home!!

I am SO embarrassed, that I'll be the red-faced fisherman out there next week. Look for a Black and Grey Fisherman 1800, and have a laugh at my expense!

Careful, I think that lake is cursed. It was Owasso that I trailered to last season with a buddy only to realize I'd forgotten something important...my rods.

Not only that, but two years ago we took the canoe to Wabasso across the street & I forgot my paddle. This from a guy who triple checks pretty much everything. tongue.gif

What is your guys take on this lake? I fish it a couple times a year. A few years ago I remeber the big flat just west of the launch being choked with weeds and over the last couple years when I was out there the flats was pretty much weedless. I lost a mid 40's fish 2 years ago out there, I found I really small patch of cabbage on the flat and she came out of there. I've had a couple follows in the northwest corner going west down the shore from the private beach. I've never dug anything up in the channel that leads to the deep hole in the south west corner. Not looking for honey holes or anything but I'm at a loss on where look out there.

I agree with Maximum, Owasso is cursed. In the same week, went out there the first time, and forgot the keys to the boat, had to drive all the way back to my buddy's house on the east side of St. Paul, then later in the week, the ball joint went out on his truck, took out the control shaft, causing $3000 in damage while we were trying to launch the boat. needless to say there were a couple of very upset individuals waiting in line at the launch while the tow truck was on its way
