Fort Frances to Savant Lake?

Recommended Posts

What sort of driving time and road conditions should we expect driving from Fort Frances to Savant Lake in early July? Has anyone made this drive recently? Any major road construction issues? We're driving up to Savant Lake from Duluth on July 8th for a fly-in that departs from there so won't being towing a boat.

Smallfry, Just leaving this A.M. to go to Lk St Joseph, just past Savant. Have been going the last 15 year and the best route is up through Grand Portage to Thunder Bay( look for the short cut around Thunder Bay,it's on the map). Travel west To Ignace(we stay over there 1 night). Then go 100 miles north to Savant. By far a smoother , faster and less stressful drive. I will advise you of any major detours we encounter after we return next Monday. Great fishing to You. DrJ. PS the border crossing alone is worth it. No lengthy traffic delays like happens at Fort Fr. all the time..

Dr J. - Thanks for your note. Best of luck on your trip. But looks like you might not see this until your return.

What sort of drive time would you estimate from the border at Grand Portage to Savant Lake?

I just came back from Savant Lake via Grand Portage. It is about 4.5 hours to Savant from Grand Portage. It is about 45 minutes to Kakabeca Falls, another 2 hours 15 minutes to Ignace and no more than an hour and a half from there to Savant Lake. Good luck and have fun. We had a great trip!
