-Marc V-
Howdy Folks, I was looking for some help on where to find catfishing gear, mostly for flatheads (8/0 to 10/0 hooks, and some of those no-roll sinkers 2oz-5oz) in the Twin Cities. I've looked around a little, but with no luck. I've got a musky pole, that may be a little short (6'9") heavy action with a Garcia 6500 reel. Figure should be sufficent for now. I'm looking to try out the cat game. Mostly been a trout guy, but after seeing some of the monster flatheads posted I'd like see what it feels like to have something really pulling back on the other end of my line. Any other advice for a newbie would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance. Marc

hanson
LOL! Trying to find good cat gear in the cities is like trying to... uhhh, nevermind.Anyway, picking up some hooks & sinkers from Jeff @ Scenic Tackle is going to be a great way to go. I would go with 10/0 Gamakatsu which is what he has at an awesome price! These hooks are around 50 cents a piece when you find them in a store so they are darn near half price! You could easily get by with 3oz & 4oz No-Roll sinkers. I rarely use anything heavier unless the current is screaming. Been using (and losing!) a lot of 4 ouncers lately! If you're looking for a good cat rod, I can direct you to a baitshop in south Minneapolis. He's got a pretty decent selection of cat rods. And cat rods aren't that expensive either so you may want to consider getting a 7 1/2 - 8 foot cat rod and putting that Garcia on it.
Guest
Mark V.. Moores bait on 58th and Lyndale(Minneapolis) has all the cat gear your looking for. He is really going out of his way to help out us catfishing guys and has aquired a very respectable stock of catfishing essentials. Scenic Tackle has some excellent deals on bulk tackle to save some cash. Moores may be able to point you in the right direction for hooking into a few cats around the cities... but right now for the most part, if it looks fishy, fish it.. the cats are biting pretty consistently everywhere.
