northern light

I haven't heard any reports this year.

I'm heading up there on June 18th. Was there last year about the same time. Walleye fishing was brutal, but smallies were really hot, especially on small, 1/8- 3/16 oz jigs and tails. Also caught many on topwaters, spinnerbaits, stickbaits and wacky worms.

Please report back on your success. Thanks and good luck.

I will be staying at Northern Light Resort in one of the light housekeeping cabins. Basically bedrooms, toilet, communal shower and a kitchen, but what do you need?

Last year several groups seeking only walleye pulled out early.

We caught enough walleye to eat and switched our focus to smallmouth and pike. When we got there, we checked around the camp and nobody was catching any walleye to speak of so we decided not to beat our brains out trying. Also, we went to several of the other small lakes in the area with great results.

Other members of my group, who have been going there for years, told me that walleye fishing had been great up until last year.

I heard that they were very slow all summer. Danged if I know why. I'll be happy if the smallies are hot.

This is what I was afraid of. Last year was very tuff fishing. I only caught about a dozen all week and I fished hard.

Smallies are always easy to find up there. We even tried Lakers with no success. If reports dont get better I wont be going this year.

Canceled out trip for this year. frown.gif

We will either hit Rainy Lake or Mil Lacs. Maybe Vermilion if it gets going again. Also looking for another place to try out.

Anyone have any advice on a place to go catch a few eyes thats not fancy and a good price? All we need is a dry/clean place to sleep and eat and a good fishing lake.
