Muskie Logs

Recommended Posts

I keep a pretty simple log of the muskies I catch. Just the lake, lure, color, size of the muskie. I'm going to start keeping track of the weather conditions (wind, rain, snow etc.), where I caught it, (weeds, rocks etc.), depth and maybe even the moon phase this year.

I started one last year and keep date, time, moon phase, air temp ,wind, barom. location as far as deep or shallow etc. Do you think it's necesary to log all of this along with days that all you get are a follow or nothing at all?

I use calanders with the moon phases already on them. I have been doing this for the last 8 years. I log everything. Conditions, water temp, where I fished, what baits produced, status of the weed growth, when the cisceos moved in etc. etc..

At the end of the year I add up all the numbers and try to come up with a plan for the next year. What lakes to fish at what times, when to schedules trips to catch cisceo spawn and an idea of what lures patterned well before. Its a numbers game so use the numbers to become succesful.

I actually started my log last september and didn't boat alot of fish last fall so my numbers are a little weak but it's a start. I created my own spread sheet and was thinking I might be tracking to much unnecessary info.It will be interesting to see what the year brings.
