So for the 4th weekend in a row, I’ll be back in South Dakota, but this weekend lands me in Dakota Dunes to visit some friends. Can anybody provide any fishing opportunity information on this area. I’ve never fished the area, nor do I know anything about the area.

My basic questions would be as follows:

Is there any place to fish from shore? Catching what? I’d like to target eyes, or panfish, but I’d be game for anything.

Can I fish the river with a SD license?

What’s McCook Lake all about?

Help out if you can, and if anybody is willing to hit the water with, let me know. Shoot me an email if you wish. I'm not exactly sure how much I will fish, but if I get some good feedback here, it might be quite a little.

Thanks

I used to fish McCook Lake from shore by the boat landing. Boat landing was in the town of McCook Lake. I caught walleyes and Bass there. Also Burbank Lake is by the is between Elk Point and the town of Burbank, SD. Lots of Sunfish and Crappies in that lake when I lived down there. That was 10 years ago, so it could have changed by now.

You can fish the river from shore with a SD license as long as you are on SD land. I only caught catfish and drum when I fished the river.

Tyler: I will be staying at Platte Creek Friday-Monday.

Its just a hour away. If you want to drive out I have plenty of room in the boat for a morning of fishing or something like that. I talked to a buddy from Sioux Falls who went fishing with his two kids tues and wed and they went through a whole flat of crawlers (kids missed ALLOT of fish.) The bite is on. smile.gif

Dean,

I truly appreciate the offer; however, this is a weekend with the fiance and her friends. Fishing is "suppose to" take a backseat on this trip, so I don't think I could make a whole morning out of it. I'll have to decline the offer this time, but there will be many more that will work out.

I am going to bring the rods along and wake up around 5am and poke around for a few areas to cast. I'm hoping to pickup some pannies, bass, or even an eye.

Have a good weekend Dean.

Tyler: Is Lake Yankton to far off the map? She's gotta know a man has to fish. Maybe she could tour the dam while you fish. Now there's some excitement!!! wink.gif

You two enjoy the long weekend also, and have a safe trip.

I don’t mean to leave you hangin, but I can’t give up the location. It was given to me from a friend and I gave him my word of secrecy. I will tell you it was a bit of a drive and I ended up only fishing for a few hours. I only made it out on Sunday AM. I was going to try another body of water in the DD area on Sat & Monday AM, but the breeze was terrible.
