Pond stocking

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a home with a pond on it and was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it would take to get fish in it. The pond is about 200 yds in diameter with a depth of 15'. It does have an underground spring that keeps it full year round. My kids do a lot of fishing in the mining ponds for sunnys and gills and asked if they can start bring them home to put in the pond. Any ideas???

Talk to the DNR and get a permit or permission to do it. Transporting live fish and stocking them yourself is illegal.

Even though it may be a private pond, transporting fish from any other water is illegal. Besides the DNR may be able to help you with a plan as to the best way to create a good little fishery.

I live on a small lake that was ruined by a neighbor who decided to practice "bucket biology". It was a lake with only walleye and he decided to bring in every other species you could imagine. Now the stunted fish eat all the walleye fry. Very unfortunate.
