Anchors away.......

jiggin' fool

Question

I seldom anchor my boat. I am either running the electric, while casting jigs or cranks, or running rigs and bouncers with bait..., or I am trolling. But come this fall, I want to key in on the wing-dams along the shorelines of the Mississippi. To fish these effectively, you need to be above them. I want an anchor that will hold, nearly every time, yet not be a chore to get free.
I have a Lund 1800 Explorer, so this anchor MUST be able to hold some weight, in the current. (I do NOT want to be breaking free and hanging up that boat on a wing-dam. Does anyone in here fish wing-dams often, and if so, how do you do it..., and what type of anchor do you use.
Thanks folks!!!!!!

I use a Digger anchor. I works when I fish the Rainey River in the fall, which is always windy and difficult to anchor. This anchor has a cast iron, spring loaded center that will release and come staight up if you give it a sharp tug. It works great if you get hung up in rocks. They come n three sizes, which are relatively light for the holding power that they have. The key is to let out at least 3 times the rope as the depth you are anchoring in.

Buzbunni,

Thank you!!!!!!

That is one MEAN looking anchor.

Any place that has them in S.E. MN??? Do they sell them at Cabela's??? I sure would like to pick one up!!!

Thanks again. I will certainly purchase one of them. I am a little nervous about breaking free of the face of a wing-dam, and bottoming out the boat before I can start up the motor and get to H$!! out of there.

I'm just the messenger boy, but you're welcome.

I don't know where to purchase said items, but I bet if you contact Dennis or Ed they could send you in the right direction.

Happy Anchoring!
