moving a gas tank

I have an 18' fiberglass deep 'v' with a 120hp mercruiser i/o. I am thinking about replacing the 18 gallon gas tank. It is mounted under the bow. I figured the weight with gas to be around 135 pounds. Could i get by mounting 2 tanks on either side of the motor in back? will that mess with the designed weight distribution of the boat. The plus side to me moving the tanks would be a lot of extra storage under the bow and i could manage my fuel better.

If you replace that weight with storage I don't see a problem. Try and get the tanks midship along the sides. Vent the tanks and vent the enclosure the the tanks will be in to the outside.
