HELP!!!!! Fuel Pump Replacement on 93 s10 Blazer

Mr Special

Question

Trying to help a bud out and have never worked on a Blazer before. Just wondering if my plan of attack is right.

Disconnect battery cables
Empty tank as much as possible
Remove tank straps, cut or drill out strap bolts if needed
Lower tank
Disconnect wiring harness and fuel lines from sending unit
Remove lock ring and remove sending unit from tank
Replace fuel pump, and proceed in reverse to install

But being that I've never worked on a Blazer also wondering if the fuel line and stuff or Quick disconnects so will I be needing those tools.

Thanks

You may want to relieve the fuel pressure either at the fuel rail or via the inerta switch.
I'm not sure if the blazers have two fuel pumps or not, my f150 had 3 1 in each tank and one on the frame rail.

I just replaced the fuel pump on my GMC Sierra, and came across the need for a special tool to remove the fuel lines. It is nothing more than a plastic lil gizmo. But it sounds like you are going in the right direction and swapping pumps! I don't know if it matters or works, I heard this after the fact, but someone told me to remove the filler cap to relieve the pressure.

Thanks again guys,
But yep those Quick Disconnects can make it easy, but only if you have them handy. Being that it's a 93 that's right around the era that things started changing and Chevy was throwing parts in without rhyme or reason.

Again thanks for all the info
P.S.
If you fell the need to help and smell like gas for a few days you're more then welcomed.

MR S....

Sounds alot like when I did my '88 Astro.

Maybe you know the following, maybe you don't, so here goes.....

Be sure to use a brass drift pin or wooden dowel when you go messing w/ the lock rings - you don't want to make a spark w/
steel on steel.

A floor jack helps alot w/ lowering and lifting the tank.

WD40 or other rust loosener solevent on those fasteners. Lots of it.

I did the pump replacement on a 94 blazer, everything pointed in that direction, but it turned out to be the fuel injection system, and that took 4 replacements before we got a good system (glad a garage was doing the work at that point)Good luck HTB

Thanks again everyone for the helpful tips. It actually went pretty smoothly, got it done in about 2.5hr and might have been faster if not for the beer and smoke breaks. Yes, the smoke breaks were very far from the truck.

Again thanks, the FM members has always came through when needed.
