Weather ?? for WxGuy

Down to Earth

Didn't know how much you check the Roch. forum so I thought I'd try you here. What is it about Spring time that makes it so windy? Whether its out in the boat or out on the roads cycling the Spring winds seem to be stronger than what we have in the Summer.

Also, can you shoot me an e-mail, [email protected]

Thanks.

Andy,

April is typically the windiest month of the year, followed by March and November.

The reason is because of the seasonal shift. There are large temperature differences between the northern and southern parts of the continent, as there is still plenty of cold air in Canada and very warm air here and southward, and the resulting strong pressure forces are the primary cause of the wind in April.

Once we get into the summer months, the northern hemisphere as a whole has had a chance to warm enough that the changes in temperature aren't as "steep" from the southern U.S. to southern Canada. In turn, it's typically more tranquil.

Hope this helps!
