OKUMA Baitcaster

Mr Special

Recommended Posts

I know my Okuma is a little touchy with the anti-backlash, especially with a bullhead attached, but this year with a 3oz weight and cut bait it has been pretty good. I am begining to think I need a stiffer rod for casting bullheads and heavier weight.

Anyone else have an opinion about my rod as it relates to backlash? Seems to me with a stiffer rod the loading and release is more even, thus preventing backlash. Does that sound about right?

Which Okuma do you have? I was thinking of the Stardrag Levelwind #OKSD30LX*

Classic Pro 302L.

Yours is actually a much better reel. I would get another I am going to get another Okuma when I am ready.

I own two okuma baitcasters. A Classic Pro 302 and a Convector 30L. The convector is nicer and is better made. I like them both. They have reasonably loud clickers and decent drags. I still prefer my Abu 6500's and my Penn 220 GTO over the Okumas.

I have one Okuma Spinning and one bait and love them both. Both have stood up the last 2 yrs with our kitties quite well. They are out in the garage and I am not sure of the models but will check tomorrow. When I picked them out I had been using Abu 6500 and 7000 and find they both stand up as good if not maybe alittle better. I have had some 6500s stripped but not the Okuma, yet. Both are smooth and seem to have a good drag. I am sure U wont go wrong with them. Last year I was mainly casting 6oz lead and had no problem with either. No I am not getting any promo on them but would recommend them to friends any day.

I have an Okuma Epixor EB50 on one of my flathead rods. It really is a great little reel. The Epixors have the baitfeeder/baitrunner on them similar to a clicker on the baitcasters.
